BHHS softball and baseball games got underway last evening. Our Minutemaids came up short, but gave a 100% effort. Our Minutemen won 2-1 in six innings before the game was called. Good luck to our teams for the upcoming games this week!

“Mr. Banwart's current and future AP Gov't./Macro/Euro students went on a 2-day field trip on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5. They traveled to the State Capitol in Springfield, where they met Gov. Pritzker, Speaker Chris Welch, and former Gov. Pat Quinn, while being led by Andy Manar and getting a behind-the-scenes look inside the Capitol Building. They also heard from a panel of 4 heads of IL Dept. agencies. They visited Arthur, IL and Amish Country, where they enjoyed a home-cooked meal at an Amish farm home and received a guided tour. Then, an escape room in Peoria, where critical thinking, camaraderie, and team-building were on full display! They also visited a WWII historian, Clark Stoller, and enjoyed an interactive lecture and demonstration with real artifacts and mementos from the war. Finally, they visited Livingston County War Museum and enjoyed hearing from veterans, learning their stories, and remembering those that have sacrificed so greatly for us. This trip wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of so many. A very special thanks to Deputy Governor Andy Manar and his Dunn Fellow Anna McKinley for organizing the meetups and leading us through the Capitol, Clark Stoller for hosting us in his home library, our awesome community in Bunker Hill and BHHS staff/admins for supporting us, David Estes and all the vets at the Livingston County War Museum, Gov. Pritzker, Speaker Chris Welch, and countless others. We couldn't have done it without you. This trip has been an incredible experience for the students; they will never forget it or your kindness and generosity. It's allowed them to get an up-close look of our government and our people in action, and learned what is possible with teamwork, commitment, and perseverance. The future is bright and we're so proud of our students and thankful for the amazing people that helped them experience this!”

Five BHHS students qualified for the state competition in Skills USA! The following students passed the first test (career and workforce readiness) and 2nd test (assess content knowledge) and therefore ranked high enough for state competition. Congrats to Lillian Burris (Nurse Assisting), Sophie Rull (Nurse Assisting), Kiersten Carlson (Practical Nursing), Jake Jarrell (Electrical Construction Wiring), and Chris Chapman (Motorcycle Service Technology). At state competition, students will compete for a hands-on competition later this spring.

BHHS recently celebrated FFA Week. It consisted of various dress-up days such as camo day and blue and gold day. Throughout the week, there were tiny farm animals hidden all over the school that students could find in order to earn an off-campus lunch. The FFA Officers also wore their “official dress” and grilled and served the teachers and staff a pork burger lunch on Wednesday. The week ended with our annual “Drive Your Tractor to School Day!” Thank you to the FFA!

Coming through in the clutch! BHHS Scholastic Bowl team got 2nd place overall in the Macoupin County Tournament last night at North Mac. Their semifinal win against Carlinville was a comeback thriller that came down to the final tossup and bonus question, as they won 240-230. A true team effort!!
