IMPORTANT UPDATE TO BUNKER HILL CUSD 8 SPECTATOR POLICY
Yesterday the state of Illinois announced news regarding a Bridge to Phase 5, and although Illinois has not reached the metrics for the Bridge Phase at this time, it does loosen attendance restrictions for indoor venues of capacity greater than or equal to 200. Effective immediately – our spectator policy is as follows:
• 50 visiting team guests may attend BH events, provided they bring their home pass
• Bunker Hill 8 will now expand to three (3) fans per athlete
More details will be coming soon, especially once Spring outdoor sports contests begin!

Good evening, Bunker Hill 8 families –
As we close the books on the 3rd quarter of what has been a most unusual school year, I would like to share a couple of updates with you regarding Covid-19 and remote learning going forward for the final quarter.
For the remainder of the year, Bunker Hill CUSD 8 will comply with the ISBE mandate that all school districts allow families that wish to choose remote learning based on concerns of health and/or safety during the pandemic. However, beginning 4th quarter (Monday, March 14) students will no longer be able to move between “remote” and “in-person” at will unless they have specifically been ordered to quarantine by the Macoupin County Public Health Department. We have been accommodating and flexible in this regard during times when cases rise, but we cannot continue to accommodate students that elect remote and in-person many times, sometimes in the span of a single week.
Also, I would like to again extend the warmest appreciation to all of our students, staff and families who have done an outstanding job with masks, social distancing, attendance limitations, etc. It does feel like we are now in the “comeback” phase. As of the time of this writing, we have 0 staff and only 1 student in quarantine in our entire district! This is a cause for celebration, yet we also don’t want to become careless and move backwards. However, this would be an excellent time for parents of remote learners to re-consider in-person instruction. Unfortunately, we have many students that need the most assistance electing the remote learning option. While we will absolutely not overrule ISBE’s mandate, nor force anyone uncomfortable about the virus to return, we are simply asking that parents assess their child’s grades and learning progress to determine whether remote learning is the best choice. Our fourth quarter begins on Monday, and we hope to soon welcome back 100% of our students within our walls.
Again, thank you for your continued partnership this year, and I hope all is well with each of you and your families,
Thanks,
Todd
Todd Dugan, Superintendent

Tonight (2/17): Regularly-scheduled Board of Education meeting at 7:00 PM at Wolf Ridge. If attending, masks and social distancing will be required. Agenda can be found here: https://bit.ly/2M58gRy

Due to the poor conditions of rural roads in outlying areas, along with cold temperatures and additional snow forecast for the morning, Bunker Hill CUSD #8 will utilize a Remote Learning Day on Wednesday, 2/17. Meals can be ordered by emailing swuellner@bhcusd.org by 9:30 AM.

As Bunker Hill CUSD 8 continues to work toward ensuring compliance with IDPH guidance on spectators at athletics and school activities, yet still allow all student athletes representation in the bleachers, these guidelines have been created for all "home" games. Most BH opponents are not allowing "visiting" spectators at this time.
Guidance continues to change daily, so we thank you in advance for your understanding. While we realize these guidelines will not please everybody, we are grateful that our student athletes now have the opportunity to do what they love: play sports!
Also, should our EMS region move out of Phase 4 and into Tier 1, 2 or 3 these will need to be adjusted. Good luck to our student athletes, and we are hopeful for an exciting and safe season of Winter Sports!
