Bunker Hill CUSD 8 has achieved significant statewide recognition on the comprehensive Illinois 5Essentials Survey, outperforming most schools across Illinois to secure this elite organizational ranking.
According to the newly released 2026 state data, Wolf Ridge Elementary has been designated as “Well-Organized for Improvement,” a top tier distinction that places Wolf Ridge in an elite minority of schools statewide, proving that Bunker Hill CUSD 8 possesses the framework required for long-term academic excellence.
In addition, Bunker Hill High School has improved to “Organized for Improvement,” fueled by a dramatic increase in “ambitious instruction.”
As a result of the two schools’ accomplishments, the Bunker Hill CUSD 8 district overall achieved a “green” rating signifying the district is rated between Strong and Very Strong regarding the 5 “essential” areas predictive of school success:

The Illinois 5 Essentials are derived from 20 years of research on improving schools. The raw data for these reports are based on a comprehensive core of more than 80 student and 150 teacher questions compiled into 22 measures of school climate and practice and formed into five essentials. As measured by the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, those five essentials are leading indicators of school improvement. The power of 5Essentials comes from their prediction of school success, the intuitiveness of the overall framework components (Instruction, Environment, Leaders, Teachers, and Families), and the reliability of the survey measures.
In fact, past research has shown that schools strong on at least three of the five essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student learning than schools weak on three or more of the five essentials.
